Harvard

Today we visited Harvard University. In third grade I use to wear a Harvard sweatshirt everyday, I really wanted to go to Harvard. Today we took the college tour. One of the things they talked about was their houses. They have four or five houses which are similar to Hogwarts in the sense that they compete with everything and are very protective of their "kind." One thing that I thought was interesting was that the John Harvard statue is incorrect. It says that the school was founded in 1969 by John Harvard. There are three things wrong with that statement. First, The school was not founded in 1969 it was actually founded in 1966 by the mission of Boston or something like that I can't remember. The second thing wrong with the statement was that the school was founded by John Harvard. As I said before it was founded by the mission of Boston but John Harvard donated a lot of money to the school in 1969 which caused the school to change their name to Harvard. The third thing wrong with the statue is that the statue of John Harvard isn't actually of John Harvard but of a person that looks like Harvard.

Burt Dow Deep-Water Man

Today we visited the museum of fine arts, Boston and went to see the Robert McCloskey exhibits. Robert wrote and illustrated books such as Make way for Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, One Morning in Main, and Burt Dow Deep-Water Man. I had never heard of Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man before today but now it is one of my favorite pictures books ever.

Image result for burt dow, deep-water man robert mccloskey
The book is about how a man named Burt Dow had a boat named the Tidley-Idley that is painted with colors of paint from left over cans. One day Burt goes out to see to catch cod for dinner for his sister and him. Burt brings along a giggly gull. While they are out sailing Burt catches something and he is not able to pull it up. Finally, when he does it turns out that Burt's cod hook was stuck on the tail of a whale. Burt took the hook out of the whale's tale and then put a peppermint striped band aid on it. With Burt was doing this he did not pay attention to the weather and when he notices it again the waves are rough and it is not safe to sail on the old Tidley-Idley. Burt asks the whale if he can swallow him temporarily to wait out the storm. The whale agrees and swallows Burt, the boat, and the giggly gull. After the storm settled down Burt wanted to get out of the stomach of a whale. Burt had to make the whale sick to get it to cough out the boat. Burt decides to paint the whales stomach; as he is painting Burt realizes that he is expressing himself in the art. Once he makes the whale sick enough the whale coughs him up. When the boat settles on the water Burt notices that all he can see is the whales. He asks them in he can get by but they all splash their tales at him. Burt then realizes what they want. Burt then puts a peppermint band aid on each of the whales tails. Once he is done he has one band aid left and decides to save that for his sister because he thinks it will be a fun joke and something he will like.

Weather

The weather for yesterday in Mont Vernon, NH was very strange. When I woke up it was in the fortys which is warm for this time of year here but then by 11:00 it had started to rain just a little bit. By noon it was pouring. After a little bit of rain it then turned into sleet then finally snow. It snowed for a few hours straight. Finally it just stopped and the sky was clear the rest of the day.

Ruger

As I mentioned before our grandparents have a dog named Ruger. Ruger is stubborn and selfish. One of the most annoying things that he does is bark. My grandparents have trained him somehow to bark all the time so he can get what he wants. My grandfather makes Ruger hamburgers for his food. My grandmother taker Ruger on a two mile walk everyday and dotes on him all the time. Ruger is also very naughty, if no one notices him he will take something of someones and not give it back until they give him attention. The sad thing is that they have a cat but leave it in the unfinished basement. Today we went to take Ruger on a walk and the cat was out and it was wet and cold but my grandmother said to leave it out, then when we came back the cat was still out and my grandmother wouldn't let it in because she doesn't like her but then I let the cat in because I felt bad for her. They never let her come out of the basement.

Snow

I am right now in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire visiting my grandparents. On the first day we decided to take Ruger, their dog, for a walk. The morning was nice but one we were ready to take him for a walk it started snowing. We still decided to go out. The walk was very beautiful, there were lots of old and abandoned barns on the way, By the time we were finishing our walk it had started sleeting. There was also wind and when you face the wind the sleet hits your face and is stings a little.

Cold Cases

Ellie and Ella are both studying cold cases. While I was very bored in my house on a weekend I decided to watch the buzzed unsolved which are about cold cases. I don't exactly know everything about these but I will list what I remember.

The Toxic Women
Gloria Ramirez came into the E.R. late one night. She had some heart condition and it was acting up when she went in. She was rushed to the E.R. when the doctors and nurses were taking care of her they noticed a few things first, her body was covered with an oily sheen second, she smelled of fruity garlic. After a few minutes being in the E.R. one of the nurses felt nauseous and fainted. Other nurses and doctors felt the same way. The hospital then evacuated all of the other patients outside afraid that they might get the rest of the patients sick. After a little bit Gloria Ramirez was claimed dead. All of the doctors and nurses working in her room then put their scrubs in sealed bags. The Ramirez family sued the hospital because of an unclean E.R., a few years before that the hospital had a leak of some gas or fluid and a few other things like that happened.

I was going to write about Annalise Rose who was a german girl that claimed to have the devil inside her but that video was extremely creepy and very scary so I decided not to.

Here is a link if you would like to watch the buzzed unsolved.

Typical Sick Day

My typical sick day starts off with me waking up around 8:30 or 9:00. The first thing I like to do is watch a lot of TV. My mom usually makes me some tea and after a while also makes me eat something. After I watch so much TV that I get bored of watching it I will take a nap. My naps usually last two or three hours. Once I finish my nap I usually watch TV again.

Songs

I had no homework tonight so I decided to do a blog post I remember Sophie Rossman did last year. I write the first line of the song that I am currently listening to and you are free to guess what songs they are. Some songs are from musicals.

  • She says it's cold outside and she hands me my raincoat
  • Mister President, you asked to see me
  • I am not throwing away my shot
  • All smiles, I know what it takes to fool this town
  • I know I took the path that you would never want for me
  • I was walking down the street when out the corner of my eye
  • Well I woke up to the sound of silence the cars
  • All this feels strange and untrue
  • In the land of gods and monsters,
  • I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball
  • Are we crazy? Living our lives through a lense
  • Oh my life is changing everyday
  • Do you know what's worth fighting for
  • This is ten percent luck
  • How long how long will I slide
As I read through these I realize that even though I know these songs I still find it very hard. I would like to see your guesses.

LIttle Frank

Today I am honoring Little Frank who died under a couch to serve his fellow cheerios.
Little Frank was born on December 19, 2016. He was taken from Paloma's pencil box when she was cleaning it out. Little Frank was born with no eyes or hair. Ten minutes after he came into this world we drew on hair and eyes. Little Frank's favorite place to be was on Dani's gel pen box. One of Franks' happiest and scariest moments was when he was put in Dani's locker because of EXPO. Little Frank was happy in there because there was food but he was also scared because it was dark but outside of the locker it was loud. Little Frank died on March 15, 2017 at 3:00. Little Frank died while on a dangerous mission to save a piece of dust from being left under the couch. As Frank dropped off the dest and rolled under the couch he soon realized that he could not move his body and knew that it would not be long before he left this beautiful and loving world.

Mudville

My friend Mari and I use to play a game called Mudville. Mudville is a village that Mari and I built out of mud. The village was on the side of my house. Mudville had a river that ran through it and then turned into a lake. Mari and I would build mud houses on the side of the river. We would also make piers and bridges. After we spent time building Mudville we would turn on the water and had the hose fill up the river and once the lake was filled up it would flood the village and the houses would get destroyed along with the bridges and piers. Once that happened we were done playing the game until the next time we would build Mudville again.

Weird Games Part 2

Today's weird game is called the weird game.

Cloud Game
This game was I think one of the weirdest games that I played. There was a city and the whole city was made of clouds. All of the people were made of clouds. People floated on clouds. When I was playing the game I could walk through the people and the houses but I could float on the clouds. That just doesn't make sense to me now. I was in fourth grade when I played this game.

Weird Games

When I was younger I use play a lot of weird games. I have decided to share some of them along with descriptions of how to play over the course of a few days.

The Powers Game:
This game included a few friends and I that pretended that we all had special powers. The powers that we had were fire, water, animals, and plants. The fire power allowed you to control fire start and stop fires. Usually the person which played that their power was fire became very aggressive in the game. The powers that come with water are the same as power. The person who played the water character was usually funny. The animal person could talk to animals, yes that was all. The person who had animal power was very kind. The last one is the plant power, that was me, I could grow plants as fast as I want, I could move them and control them. I also got to use plants as medicine and cure people. We would run, jump, skip, and crawl around the field as we pretended to fight off evil. Our safe hiding place was a rock in between two trees and we used that space to plan out how to defeat evil people. When we weren't fighting evil people we were middle school students that went to regular classes. This game was not only played outside at recess we played it all day. We all had this weird obsession with it and drew pictures of how we looked in our game, wrote stories about us, and even made a trailer on I-Movie for the game.

Save The Earth

In third grade I wrote a page in a book called 23 Ways to Save the Environment. My page was call don't cut down trees! (note that the title was all in caps). Here it is.

Trees are a part of our everyday life. We use them in different ways. But when we use too much it's not good for the environment. When we cut down a tree it increases the risk of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is what trees convert in. Tree convert out oxygen which is what we breathe in. As I said before, when we cut down a tree it increases the risk of carbon dioxide covering the Earths oxygen layer.

Practice

Today was a five hour practice for Our Town. I had so much fun. When we first started it was a little tough but then it got better. Everything looked so nice with the props, set, and background painted. Props to anyone who helped to paint the background. I was originally nervous for my solo part in the second act but when the time came I was so prepared and it felt right to me. I know that sounds weird but sometimes you are doing something and it just feels like the right thing to do. I had some best moments. First when Amelia threw the books down and broke one of them completely, the spine came off. Secondly, I loved that the choir sounded good. We only got one day to practice the song with Anita's help but we did really well today even though it was a little high pitched. Normally people who are in plays or musicals at our school suggest that you shouldn't go see it but I feel otherwise I think it looks really good and everyone has done a great job so I suggest that you buy tickets before they run out.

Our Town

I have decided to list some of my favorite moments of the play.

  1. You can go snack now those that snack.
  2.  That great gangling thing'
  3. Have you tried singing over your voice like this, ahhhhhhhhhhh!
  4. Are you going to raise chickens on your farm George?
  5. Oh Mr. Webb, Mr. Webb is there any culture or love of beauty in Grovers Corners?
If you have any other favorite scenes or moments from the play I would love to hear what they are. Also be sure to buy tickets to see Our Town.

Cake

Today my mom, my mom's friend, and I made a cake for a surprise party. My mom's friend invited one hundred people so we had to make six cakes and that had its own complications because we don't have multiple ovens or a really big mixer so it took a few hours. Once we made the cakes we had to let them cool and for some reason the cakes sunk in the middle. I think it had to have been something with the ingredients but it was a family recipe from my moms friend so that seems plausible. For the decoration of the six cakes, they were all different sizes so we decided to make it into a train and write happy birthday on the larger cakes. We used lots of different colors to decorate the cake and in my opinion it looked liked a few third grades had fun adding as much frosting on as they could. Finally in the windows of the train we added shadows of people on the Train including the person who's birthday we are celebrating.

The cake was a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

The Godfather

Last night I watched The Godfather. I was surprised that it was three hours long. For those of you that do not know about the godfather it is a movie that's about the mafia. This is a famous movie that a lot of other movie and television shows reference. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the movie. I thought the ending fell flat and never concluded or solved the whole plot of the movie, but I guess that's why it's a trilogy. It just seems like if they make a three hour movie that lags on for an hour longer than it should, they should complete the story and explain everything instead of just leaving the audience dumbstruck and confused about how the ending made sense.

I'm Thankful I'm a Writer...

I'm thankful I'm a writer because writing allows me to express my feelings in a way that also lets me think and be creative. One of my favorite parts of being a writer is that I am able to write whatever I want and take only some pieces of a memory or a story to write. Writing is also a great way to think through problems and allows you to be more creative because writing can be obscure and obscure as you want because anything can happen. Writing also lets you get out all of your thoughts and there doesn't have to be any order.

Bee

I found a poem from third grade that I wrote. I remember at the time I was very proud of this poem. I thought I wrote the best poem there ever was, it was deep, thoughtful, and descriptive.

Here is the poem:

Bee with your huge round eyes
Silver wings
and
striped body
You land on my arm
Soft as can be
It looks up at me
So harmless
Who would hurt a bee?
The bee lifts itself off me
"Find nectar"
I tell it as I leave.

Music Trifles

Dani and I have decided to do a weekly music trivia. Each Friday we will post the first verse of five songs from different genera and time periods. The first person to guess all of the songs correctly, the genera, and the time period on both blogs will be able to choose the next weeks genera and time period.

Genera: Pop
Time Period:2000's

1)  Remember those walls I built

     Well, baby, they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound

2)  It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up 'cause you were born this way, baby

3)  You think I'm pretty
     Without any make-up on
     You think I'm funny
When I tell the punch line wrong
     I know you get me
So I'll let my walls come down, down

4)  We clawed, we chained, our hearts in vain
     We jumped, never asking why
We kissed, I fell under your spell

A love no one could deny

5)  The way you move is like a full on rainstorm
And I'm a house of cards
You're the kind of reckless that should send me running
But I kinda know that I won't get far

The Dramatic Death of a Hamster

I have discovered that I am bad at taking care of animals. A few years ago my best friend went on a sabbatical to Spain. I was in charge of taking care of their pet hamster named Hammy. The first few months went very well. I learned that hammy liked to climb the side of his cage, sleep in a hole in the ground, and chew hair. The next month everything changed, Hammy started growing a tumor. We took him to the vet and called their family. My best friends family didn't want Hammy to get surgery or whatever would get rid of his tumor so we just watched it grow as we kept asking care of him. A month before my friend came back from Spain Hammy unfortunately died. We put him in a plastic container, even though I think that plastic isn't good to put in the ground. Then we had a funeral with another of our friends and buried him under the tree in my friend's backyard.

Rusalka

Over winter collective my cousin, mother, and I saw an opera called Rusalka. This opera was very strange. First off, it was in a movie theater. Our cousin wanted to see the live stream of Rusalka from the Metropolitan Opera Theater. The opera was in Czeck and was four hours long.

Rusalka was basically a twist on The Little Mermaid but very strange. Rusalka is a water nymph and she sees a hunter. Rusalka drinks a potion that is given to her by the evil Jezibaba and it takes Rusalka's voice to make her human and she has to kiss the prince to get her voice back.

When Rusalka comes on land and the prince finds her he is immediately in love with her and brings her back to his castle. He tries to kiss Rusalka multiple times but she does not let him for some reason and when he finally get that she does not want to kiss him he goes back to the princess. Then Rusalka goes back to her home and calls on Jezibaba and wants to become water nymph but Jezibaba says Rusalka has to kill the prince to become a nymph again. Rusalka says that she can't so Jezibab puts a spell on Rusalka so that if she kisses the prince he will die. When the prince finds Rusalka who has run away from the castle he asks her to kiss him but Rusalka tells him that if he kisses her he will die but he tells her to kiss him so he can die in peace and then he dies because Rusalka kissed him.
